Resveratrol Anti-Aging and Eye Issues
Here is a testimony from a Shaklee Distributor showing the power of preventing disease before it gets a hold on your precious eyes.
About five years ago, my optometrist said he saw wrinkling in the back of my eyes, which was likely the first sign of macular degeneration. I went home and immediately started taking 4 Carotomax a day. The next year, he shook his head and said, "Last year I saw something, but this year I don't see anything." When he asked what I was doing, I told him about Carotomax. He
was impressed, and he does know Shaklee, as his wife buys some products from a friend.
Year before last he saw the beginnings of caratacts, the very slow growing kind, around the perimeter of my eyes. This past summer I went in for my check-up, and he told me I have "very young eyes." I have been on Vivix since the New Orleans conference. He didn't mention cataracts; I can only assume this is thanks to Vivix.

February of 2008 I was diagnosed with Colitis and Diverticuli but tests also showed a possibility of Chrons.
I was on various medications throughout 2008 and 2009 with nothing really helping.
Then one day in late January of 2010 my Shaklee Distributor called and talked to me about Vivix and offered to send more information along with testimonials. After reading the material I ordered Vivix and after a month thought it wasn't going to help me but I remembered my Shaklee distributor saying to try it at least for two months.
I started taking Vivix in February and after two months I could see improvement and by three months I was symptom free and I still am.
Before taking Vivix I had diarrhea, bloody stools, and mucus discharge to the point I didn't leave the house but for a short time. I was basically living on toast and yogurt and drinking only water. I had no energy. Now I watch my diet but I can eat most things and I still drink mostly water but ocassionally have tea or a soda. I am now able to do my regular activities. ~Louise
This is a very inspiring short story for those who Cancer has creeped into their life.
In October, 2006, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I had 2 lumpectomies, went through chemotherapy, herceptin, radiation and I had a partial hysterectomy. When I finished chemo, I restarted Shaklee’s NutriFeron, VitaLea, Osteomatrix, and Sustained Release Vita-C .... PLUS 6 months prior to my last check up I started on VIVIX. My physician, who is the Head Surgical Oncologist in the Breast department at Moffitt Cancer Center, in Tampa, Florida, said my blood work and exam were excellent! I asked if they were any closer to a cure for breast cancer. The doctor said “No”, but that a substance has been found to treat the individualized expression of breast cancer, for nonhormonal breast cancer. They feel it will prevent the re-occurrence of breast cancer and prostate cancer.
Moffitt has just put in for a one-million dollar grant for a clinical trial of this substance. When I asked “What is the substance?”, the doctor said it was RESVERATROL.I said I have been taking Shaklee’s Vivix (Resveratrol) for 6 months. The doctor looked surprised, and said “You’re the first person that we have ever seen that had such great results with Resveratrol. I will request for you be a patient advocate during the testing”.If the grant is approved I would be thrilled that I will be helping the Susan B. Komen Foundation in this study.
Taking Vivix, NutriFeron and the other supplements takes the edge off my cancer fears, knowing that they may prevent the re-occurrence of cancer.

Would you make changes to your lifestyle NOW if you knew you would live longer and better?
Did you know that the 4 major causes of death in the US are mostly preventable? That’s right, around 80% of deaths from heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer can be prevented! How long and how well do you want to live?
First thing, stop smoking. You know that smoking is bad for you. Cigarettes lower your body’s ability to function properly. Don’t take my word for it – read about it at the American Lung Society’s website http://www.lungusa.org/stop-smoking and the American Cancer Society’s site http://www.cancer.org. This one change could be the most important thing you ever do. And one of the toughest.
Next, you might need to shed some extra weight. Being overweight may make you more susceptible to certain cancers as well as increasing your risk of diabetes. Being overweight puts extra stress on your joints and increases your risk factors for a lot of other health problems. Start slowly – try to lose just 10 pounds.
Drink plenty of good, clean water (http://barefoot.myshaklee.com/us/en/category.php?main_cat=HomeCare&sub_cat=water). Toxins get stored along with your fat cells, so as you lose weight you also release these toxins back into your system. Water will help flush them out. Not having enough water affects you in many ways – ability to concentrate, feeling hungry when you are really thirsty, lack of energy, etc.
Get more active. Exercise has a lot of benefits and it actually gives you more energy. Increasing your activity level reduces your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and yes, even cancer! Walk, bike, dance, find something that gets you moving!
If you have existing conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, manage them closely. Keep your body as strong as it can be. Read more at the American Diabetes Association’s web site http://www.diabetes.org.
Improve your diet. Eat less saturated fats and more grains, fruits, and vegetables. I know you have heard this before! Read more at the American Heart Association’s website http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG. Try to buy organic food whenever you can. Pesticides and hormones added to food can cause problems of their own. Read more at the Environmental Working Group’s web site http://www.ewg.org/ourfood.
Get your cholesterol levels down; the bad cholesterol that is. You can do this naturally with Cholestrol Reduction Complex. Oddly enough, alfalfa can help clean out the plaque build-up in your arteries. Watch your sodium intake too.
Your goal is to be as healthy as you can be so your body can ward off attacks. Imagine not getting sick in the first place. That’s easier on your wallet for one thing, which will likely reduce some stress. It also beats getting sick and then fighting to get better. Prevention is the key! If you don’t believe me, read more about the spread of a new germ that is resistant to antibiotics – you don’t want to catch this one: http://www.usatoday.com/yourlife/health/medical/2010-09-17-1Asuperbug17_ST_N.htm.
Eliminate toxic exposures in the home. It makes sense, when you stop to think about it, that spraying cleaners with toxic chemicals in them all over your home, day after day, year after year, is going to have an affect on your health. Don’t think you use any products with toxic chemicals? Go to the National Institutes of Health website http://hpd.nlm.nih.gov/index.htm and look up your favorite cleaners. Odds are, they are slowly poisoning you and your family. Use green, safe cleaners; here’s a sample of what I use (http://barefoot.myshaklee.com/us/en/products.php?sku=50446).
Have regular check-ups with your doctor. Take charge of your health. Keep on top of things. Early detection of a problem will help you get back on track.
Let’s sum it up. Quit smoking. Lose some weight. Eat well. Drink clean water. Exercise. Keep healthy (diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol levels well-managed). Go green with your cleaners. Take one step at a time and find yourself living a vibrant, long life!

This is a testimony from Jan C.
My husband Jim called today after meeting with his lipid specialist in Minneapolis. Once again his cholesterol numbers have significantly dropped! At the time of his cardiac arrest 20 years ago, his cholesterol was over 400. For years the number gradually went down. Two years ago it was 179 and last year, after a year of being on Vivix, it was 138. That's when his statins were cut in half. Today Jim's total cholesterol is 97.
Jim has struggled with the LDL (bad cholesterol) the most. He has a genetic condition that causes his body to produce too much of it. Originally the LDL was 240. For years he worked to get it to 140 and then to 120. It needed to be less than 100. After a year and a half on Vivix, it dropped to 90. Today it was 58 !!!!!
Jim's doctor made this comment: Nobody wants to deal with the problem. They just want to take a pill to have it go away. When that doesn't happen they get upset." He and his office staff consider Jim their poster child. Jim complies and does what's needed to be healthy, and we support him.
What Jim does each day:
1. Takes Vitalizer, Vivix, Nutriferon, CoQHeart, Liver DTX Complex, and Joint Health Complex (had me order the new Cholesterol Reduction Complex right away, too!)
2. Runs 5 miles (has never missed a day of running in 20 years)
3. Drinks tea instead of coffee (Was addicted to coffee but switched to tea several years ago and dropped 30 points off his cholesterol total)
4. Is his own boss - so he can run and rest as needed (Quit a 20 year corporate job at time of cardiac arrest 20 years ago and located his office at home)
5. Makes decisions that eliminate as much stress as possible from his day.
Our youngest son Matt was 2 when Jim had the cardiac arrest. He got married on June 11 this summer. Twenty years ago, I never imagined that with 3 arteries 100% blocked and the 4th blocked 70%, that Jim would even live to see his youngest son grow up. It's good to note, too, that our three sons and I have supported all of Jim's efforts, and as a result we are healthier ourselves. Our family experience is proof that great health is primarily in the hands of the individual and the choices he or she makes. We've always chosen Shaklee nutrition, for example, and that has paid off royally for us. ~Jan

DR Maroon on Resveratrol and Anti-Aging
The book: The Longevity Factor How Resveratrol & Red Wine activate genes for a longer and healthier life by Joseph Maroon, M.D.
This just in from Shirley a Shaklee Distributor..
Today I went in for my yearly hearing aid check up at the audiologist. He said that it has been a number of years since I had a hearing test and this is especially important considering my age. After the tests were completed he compared the results today with the previous tests. He said he didn't understand why the results of today's testing were so out of line with my previous tests. Then he showed me the comparison. He said my tests today showed my hearing to be ABOVE the "normal" line whereas my previous tests showed all my scores to be way BELOW the "normal" range. He said this can't be because no one has ever had this much improvement in their hearing in all the years he has been in this business. He said that something isn't right, no one has this dramatic improvement in hearing and especially considering your age.
Then I told him that I felt sure I had the explanation for the improvement - it's Vivix. Then I briefly told him what this product is and the testimonials Shaklee has received of vastly improved health because of this product. That it is so unique Shaklee has applied for patents. I asked him if he'd like for me to drop off information and science about this product. He said "yes".
According to research published in Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism resveratrol, a compound found in the skin of red grapes, appears also to suppress inflammation in humans, a finding that may have implications for both inflammatory and degenerative diseases.
Here are some important diseases that have been linked to inflammation:
Age-related macular degeneration, a condition in which the cells in the retina degenerate, has been linked to inflammation. Research has pointed to abnormalities in the complement cascade that create a pro-inflammatory environment. If you have new distortion or central black spot, you should seek immediate medical attention as this may represent the "wet type" of macular degeneration, for which treatments are available.
Diabetes, a condition in which the body's own insulin is not effective or is present in lower amounts, has been linked to inflammation of the tiny insulin producing cells in the pancreas. Diabetes is associated with a higher link of stroke, heart attack, kidney disease and blindness.
Ischemic heart disease, which can cause heart attack, has been linked to inflammation of the inner lining of the coronary arteries. Inflammation associated with plaque can cause sudden cardiac death.
To perform their study, researchers from Kaleida Health's Diabetes-Endocrinology Center of Western New York, gave 10 subjects nutritional supplements containing 40 milligrams of resveratrol. Another then took an identical pill containing no active ingredient. Participants took the pill once a day for six weeks. Fasting blood samples were collected at the start of the trial as well as weeks one, three and six.
The results showed that resveratrol suppressed the generation of free radicals. These are unstable molecules which can cause oxidative stress and release proinflammatory factors into the blood stream. Ultimately these molecules are known to damage to the blood vessels and also promote angiogenesis or the formation of new blood vessels.
Todays research shows that resveratrol can have an effect on inflammation in the body. More research is needed to better understand if this compound can lower the prevalence and incidence of diseases linked to inflammation and aging.

Can a supplement with resveratrol and polyphenols boost cellular energy and metabolism? Researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Shaklee Corporation have partnered to address these questions by studying the impact of a unique blend of resveratrol and muscadine polyphenols found in Shaklee VIVIX Cellular Anti-Aging* dietary supplement, on human muscle cell mitochondria, the intra-cellular power plants that generate cellular energy.
With this research, Dr. Jamie McManus, Chairman of Medical Affairs, Health Sciences and Education at Shaklee, and Dr. Michael Zemel of the University of Tennessee are seeking to determine the impact of this unique polyphenol blend on key biological processes related to cellular energy production and aging.
"One of the key mechanisms of aging is a decline in mitochondrial mass as well as the effectiveness of the mitochondria," said Dr. McManus. "In our research, we're trying to validate the impact of VIVIX polyphenols on mitochondrial biogenesis -- shorthand for how the number and size of mitochondria help create cellular energy and boost metabolism. We're excited to share our research goals with the medical community and create a baseline for future studies on polyphenols and cellular energy metabolism."
VIVIX was developed by Shaklee scientists by combining resveratrol with an extract from the only grape in nature that contains an extra chromosome. This muscadine super grape has polyphenols that complement the many benefits of resveratrol. Shaklee scientists created a unique profile of polyphenols shown in laboratory studies to positively impact multiple mechanisms of cellular aging.*

TYPE II DIABETIC AND VIVIX
A couple of months ago I got a very good friend of mine who has Type II diabetes to go on the Vivix. I had sent her some information on resveratrol and the amazing effects it is having on people's health. I told her I knew of a top of the line product loaded with resveratrol and other important ingredients that far outweigh
anything out there. She has already discussed with me the increase in energy she feels and how the spots on the back of her hands have disappeared.
Here's a shining testimonial she shared with me tonight - I'm so incredibly excited for her! "I was super sick for about four days; dousing myself in peppermint oil did no good. While deciding whether to draw up a will or break down and go to the doctor, I chose the doctor because it was cheaper and faster. Good news! My general health has improved so much and I've lost such a substantial amount of weight that I was overmedicating, which was what was making me so sick. He took me off two dosages completely and cut one in half. Could Vivix be the culprit here? Ya think?" Claire Peters
HUGE RESULTS WITH MS USING VIVIX
I have MS. And for me since I started using Shaklee products, I quit taking the MS drug, (too many side effects) and I was doing better in the physical sense using Shaklee. When Vivix came out, I added it to my regimen of supplements. I’m walking better, and I’m (hold your breath ... maybe you should sit down!) STARTING TO “RUN”! I am, to say the least, more than pleased with that fact. Kevin
An organic compound found in red wine — resveratrol — has the ability to neutralize the toxic effects of proteins linked to Alzheimer’s disease, according to research led by Rensselaer Professor Peter M. Tessier. The findings, published in the May 28 edition of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, are a step toward understanding the large-scale death of brain cells seen in certain neurodegenerative diseases.

Could resveratrol be your heart's best friend?
Two recent studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition report that red wine appears to have a direct effect on the health of the cells lining blood vessels, while resveratrol may also influence the function of fat cells, and reduce the risk of developing conditions related to obesity.
I can drink to that (or just grab my teaspoon of Vivix). Stay Healthy Everyone!
Get the scoop... Resveratrol’s heart health benefits pinpointed?
I've got this question about Shaklee's Resveratrol Anti-Aging Tonic more than once, so here is your answer straight from Shaklee's Field Communication Staff.
The primary polyphenol source in the Kosher Polyphenol blend is pomegranate, rather than muscadine grape as contained in Vivix. Both product formulations contain 100 mg of 98% pure resveratrol, as well as a significant level of additional non-resveratrol polyphenols from the Rejuvetrol or Kosher Polyphenol blends. In laboratory studies, the ingredients in both Vivix and Kosher Vivix have been shown to impact key mechanisms of cellular aging.
Due to processing issues, we have not been able to create a kosher Vivix formulation that contains the muscadine grape, a nonkosher ingredient. In accordance with kosher law, a rabbi would need to be present during all of the various stages of production, including the pressing of the grapes at harvest. This timescale, along with the complexity of the specific production processes needed, precludes offering a kosher product that includes the muscadine grape.
Some of you have been asking about the May 4th 2010 announcement by GlaxoSmithKline that they were suspending a clinical trial of their resveratrol drug because of safety concerns. Some of the articles went so far to say that people should be cautious about taking resveratrol supplements until these safety issues had been resolved.
Let me make this perfectly clear! The "resveratrol" drug referred to in these articles is not resveratrol itself! Please read the following information regarding resveratrol from Stephen Chaney, PhD.
Let's Start at the Beginning
The story started when scientists at Harvard screened over 500,000 chemicals to find which would be most effective at turning on anti-aging genes. They were looking for a drug that they could patent and sell to a drug company for big bucks - not a naturally occurring botanical nutrient. But what they found was that resveratrol, a nutrient that is found naturally in red wine, was the most
effective compound out of those 500,000 that they screened at turning on the anti-aging genes.
That was great news for those of you who are using resveratrol supplements, but it was bad news for them because they couldn't patent it and, therefore, couldn't sell it to a drug company. But all was not lost. There is a time-tested process for dealing with this dilemma. You just make a chemically modified derivative of the natural compound and, if it works, you patent the chemical derivative and sell it to a drug company.
Sometimes it's Best NOT to Fool with Mother Nature
So that's what the scientists at Harvard did. They made a chemical derivative of resveratrol called SRT501, showed that it also turned on the anti-aging genes, patented it and sold it to Sirtris Pharmaceuticals for $500 million. Sirtris, in turn, sold it to GlaxoSmithKline for $720 million. This is a frequently used process. Many successful drugs have been obtained this way, but the process is also fraught with perils.
The problem is that the chemically modified derivative is often not metabolized in the same way as the original and frequently can be toxic in unexpected ways. In fact, the failure rate for this process is quite high. Most of the chemical derivatives fail during clinical trials for one reason or another. It is only on a very rare occasion that these chemically modified derivatives make it through clinical trials and become a successful drug. Thus, it is perhaps not surprising that SRT501
displayed unexpected toxicity that caused GlaxoSmithKline to halt clinical trials of the drug.
But, SRT501 is not resveratrol and the toxicities of this drug have nothing to do with resveratrol.
Resveratrol is a completely natural nutrient found in grapes, red wine and other foods. SRT501 is a man-made chemical derivative of resveratrol.
Again...for the natural, safe and effective anti-aging resveratrol supplement you can rely on Shaklee the leader in natural products.

Resveratrol has wonderful anti-aging antioxidant properities. Imagine this it's an ingredient in red wine!
Reserveratrol is most abundant in the skins of red grapes used to make red wine. It slows the buildup of platelets in blood vessels, making them less sticky. This improves the blod flow. Resveratrol can slow the growth of cancer, stimulate your immune system, lower inflammation and act as a powerful antioxidant.
Researchers and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Huston show resveratrol blocks prostrate cancer at every stage. It helps more than a dozen different anticancer mechanisms in your body. What's more, resveratrol targets cancer cells selectively. It's toxic to cancer cells but doesn't harm healthy cells. It also modulates hormones; stops cancer cells from multiplying and can actually destroy cancer cells.
Resveratrol may add years to your life, too. studies using bother mice and yeast show resveratrol turns on a gene that stimulates a protein called SIRT. The greater activity of SIRT, the greater the life span of yeast and mice. It turns out that humans can also activate the SIRT protein with resveratrol.
The newest round of studies from the Instute of Genetics, Molecular and Cellulary Biology in France found resveratrol, helped mice run twice as far during excercise. It helped muscles produce more energy, reduced their heart rate and gave them endurance the researchers compared to trained athletes.
What's more, resveratrol protected mice from gaining weight and developing the symptoms of diabetes and obesity. The benefits included in improved sensitivity to insulin, which is the key to maintaing ideal weight and avoiding diabetes.
So... resveratrol is becoming a 'wonder natural compound' it's powers include:
+ Anti-fungal, anti-yeast, anti-viral
+ Antioxident - promotes glutethone
+ Increases longevity
+ Protects against heart disease, Alzheimer's and type 2 Diabetes
+ Anti-inflammatory
+ Protects DNA, stimulates repair of genes
+ Protects against cancer
+ Kills cancer cells Prevents metastasis
+ Aids Chemotherapy results, while protecting healthy cells
I've got a secret to share with ya... Now you can benefit from the latest anti-aging research. It's my latest Barefoot Secret.
